Acacia Mangium Tissue Culture Plants
Acacia Mangium popularly known as Australian Teak, grows very fast and matures within ten years of planting. The climatic condition of India is congenial for cultivation and growth of Mangium. Irrespective of the variety and fertility of the soil, Mangium grows every where.
It is a tree categorized under leguminous family, thus its roots produce enough nitrogen and leaves sustain water content for a longer period. Its leaves are very good fodder and wood is as good as Teak and can be used for many purposes like furniture, building materials, artistic goods, crafts, pulp, etc. With Teakwood being comparatively costlier & requiring longer duration for maturation, Mangium is now considered as an alternative to Teak.
Mangium has a tendency to frequently cross-pollinate with any other acacia specie. A large number of acacia species like babul (acacia nilotica), Australian acacia (acacia auriculiformis) etc. are found everywhere in India. Therefore, obtaining pure seeds of Mangium is a problem. Plants produced from cross-pollination do not exhibit true characteristics of Mangium. Tissue Culture of true Mangium clone overcomes this problem and promises high quality identical plants.
